Both coat concrete. They don't perform the same way — especially in Florida.
Polyaspartic (a type of polyurea) is roughly 4× stronger than standard epoxy, cures in hours instead of days, and resists UV fading — which matters far more in Florida than in cooler climates. Epoxy is more affordable up front but is more brittle, cures slowly, and is prone to hot-tire pickup and peeling over time.
Epoxy typically needs 3–7 days before a garage is fully usable again, with vehicles often kept off the floor even longer. Polyaspartic systems cure in a matter of hours, which is why most Royal Floor Coatings installations are finished in a single day.
Standard epoxy is UV-sensitive and will often yellow or fade with sun exposure, which is a real issue for garages with windows or pool decks in direct sunlight. Polyaspartic coatings are UV-stable, so color stays consistent over time.
"Hot-tire pickup" refers to a tire lifting or bubbling the coating when a warm tire sits on it, common with epoxy in Florida's heat. Polyaspartic systems are far more resistant to this because of their flexibility and bond strength.
